A TV set-top box is a compact device that allows you to turn a regular TV into a smart one. That means it can be used like a computer or an entertainment media center: depending on what you want to do, you can independently select movies to watch, record your favorite TV shows, listen to the radio, read the news, check the weather, or run various popular applications on the large screen.

The main marketable features of a TV set-top box include:

  • Internet surfing;
  • voice search;
  • streaming database;

  • access to messengers directly from TV.

How to choose a TV set-top box: what is important and why

The characteristics of the set-top box will determine its applicability, features, and user interface. Many criteria relate to hardware, so we’ll cover some of the hardware aspectss that will make using the set-top box comfortable over the next 5 years. The features, design, and customization options of the set-top box depend on its operating system, which we’ll review separately.

When choosing a device, you should consider the characteristics of the following parts:

  • central processor;

  • RAM;

  • built-in memory;

  • ports;

  • operating system.

Central processor

The characteristics of this component determine the power of the TV set-top box, its operating speed, and its performance. It’s worth choosing models with processors from reliable manufacturers, such as Amlogic, Realtek, and Rockchip.

The Amlogic S905Y4 model is a quad-core processor based on a 64-bit architecture and has an excellent reputation It’s characterized by maximum stability, high performance, and compatibility with a large number of pieces of equipment. The processor power allows you to run primary and advanced features, such as playing video in 4K HDR, using the HEVC codec, and connecting using Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.

Models of set-top boxes with an Amlogic S905Y4 chipset have an optimal price/quality ratio. These are the chipsets used in modern MAG TV set-top boxes produced by Infomir.

RAM

This parameter defines the speed at which applications are loaded and tasks are executed. It also determines the number of applications that can be run simultaneously without delays. To run simple games, applications, and watch large video files, 1 GB of RAM will be enough. This RAM size does not increase the cost of the device and also allows you to use the TV set-top box comfortably.

Built-in memory

The memory determines the number of applications, movies, music tracks, and images that you can store on the set-top box. However, this feature is not always worth paying extra for. If you have a USB port, you can always connect a flash drive or hard drive and increase the memory size. With that in mind, the optimal solution would be a set-top box with 4 GB of internal memory.

Ports

Ports determine the types and number of devices that can be connected. A HDMI connector is required to connect the set-top box to the TV. USB ports allow you to connect an air mouse, flash drive, webcam, keyboard, and so on. In short, the more connectors, the better.

Internet connection

The smart set-top box can be connected using a standard LAN network cable or via Wi-Fi. The first option provides connection speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s, enough to watch videos in HD, Full HD, and 4K screen resolutions. However, in terms of convenience, if you don’t want to clutter a room with unnecessary cables, choose models of TV set-top boxes with a Wi-Fi module.

Operating system

This defines a number of parameters, in particular the design of the interface, the capabilities of the set-top box, the features provided, and ease of use with a smartphone. The operating system of the set-top box is the most important selection criterion.

Linux, Android, and Android TV are the three most common operating systems for TV set-top boxes. Let’s tell you more about each of them.

Linux: simplicity and reliability

The original Linux operating system is used in PCs, and its adapted version is used in set-top boxes. Linux can have different interfaces and features, depending on the developer of the set-top box. The main feature of this OS is that the device manufacturer has developed it completely. That is, the design, features, and available applications are all created by the operator, which determines both the advantages and disadvantages of Linux set-top boxes.

The advantages of this OS include:

  • simplicity of features;

  • open source;

  • the operating system has protection against attacks and threats.

Disadvantages of the Linux OS:

  • less system flexibility;

  • the ability to use only developer-provided applications;

  • dependence of application updates on the manufacturer.

The inability to install third-party applications makes the system extremely reliable and you should choose a set-top box running Linux if security is a must for you. The system often offers a limited list of features, but they all work well.

Android (AOSP): maximum possibilities

Android is one of the most popular operating systems for mobile devices. The classic, user-friendly OS interface allows you to quickly navigate how to control the device.

Advantages of the AOSP set-top box:

  • affordable price;

  • ability to select applications;

  • menu and notification shade, like on Android smartphones and tablets;

  • ability to install launchers, programs, and widgets;

  • access to the users’ applications through their personal Google Play Market account.

Disadvantages of this ОS:

  • there is often no voice search;

  • devices do not undergo strict certification and frequently fail;

  • no protection against viruses and spyware.

Users who value the ability to install a large number of applications will obviously choose AOSP devices. The system also allows you to personalize the interface by installing launchers, choosing the sequence of applications in the menu, and placing widgets on the home screen.

Android TV: comfort and reliability

This operating system was created specifically for IPTV set-top boxes and includes all the features of using streaming services. Set-top boxes running this OS must be certified by Google and as a result are generally considered to be safe, reliable, thoughtfully designed and maximally focused on user convenience.

By purchasing such a TV set-top box, the user receives:

  • convenient voice search and control;

  • built-in YouTube and YouTube Music;

  • full Internet surfing;

  • subscriptions section and individual recommendations;

  • large selection of certified applications in the official Google Play Store;

  • broadcast from a smartphone to a TV box in one click using the Chromecast built-in service.

Android TV set-top boxes are premium-class devices, so the only downside is the high cost of the gadgets.

Based on the hardware characteristics, you should choose set-top boxes with 1–2 GB of RAM and 4–8 GB of internal memory. Among the chipsets, we recommend paying attention to models with the Amlogic S905Y4 processor, used in MAG IPTV set-top boxes.

The operating system should be chosen based on what you need from the set-top box. Android AOSP offers a familiar interface and the ability to customize it yourself. Choose Linux if your priority is that of maximum reliability, security, and turning a regular TV into a smart one. For the best comfort, design, and voice search one can find, consider set-top boxes on the Android TV platform.

The inability to pause or rewind live broadcasts is a key downside of cable and satellite TV. With IPTV, you won’t have that issue. In today’s piece, we’ll discuss what Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is and how it might enhance your daily life.

How does the IPTV subscription work?

To put it simply, IPTV is the transmission of TV shows through IP networks. In order to provide you with live or on-demand streaming material, it makes use of your ISP’s servers. Broadband internet access and a device capable of playing IPTV material are prerequisites for using an IPTV service.

Do I need a new TV-set?

With the help of a set-top box, even older TV models are capable of receiving IPTV. The digital signal is received by a set-top box, which then decodes it and displays the image on your television screen. An HDMI or composite video cable can be used to link the set-top box to the television.

Can you recommend a good set-top box?

IPTV works fantastically on set-top boxes running Linux, Android, Windows, or any other OS. The most advanced, though, are Android TVTM boxes like the Infomir MAG500A. This gadget is capable of playing 4K videos, searching the web with voice commands, and downloading apps from the Google Play Store. Thanks to Google’s endorsement, sales have been booming in the US and Europe.

Why should you use IPTV?

Video resolutions of up to 4K are supported by IPTV channels, with 8-channel sound, subtitles, and multiple audio tracks for videos also supported. They also make it possible for fans to rewatch their favorite episodes at a more convenient time. The term “IPTV” refers to a type of interactive television. Films and TV episodes can be watched live or recorded for later viewing. IPTV provides better picture quality than analog and digital transmissions at a fraction of the cost of satellite TV. Internet service companies typically provide IPTV services. A subscriber’s sole responsibilities are to choose a channel bundle and pay the service’s monthly or annual cost.

When watching IPTV, what is the right bandwidth?

Service providers often list the minimum bandwidth need for uninterrupted operation. Also, this criterion must be met to avoid the anguish of stuttering and freezing video playing. Typically, a connection speed of 5 Mbit/s is adequate for viewing standard definition video. You’ll need at least 10 Mbit/s to stream HD content. If your internet connection is slow, it’s best to watch the video at a lesser resolution or wait until it’s been cached before watching. Think about how background apps and other gadgets linked to your Wi-Fi could impair your experience.

How can I get linked up?

Find an IPTV provider in your area, research their options, and then make a purchase. Having received an IP address from your service provider, you must now link it to your router. Your set-top box must now be connected to the router (via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi). The next step is to set up the set-top box by connecting it to the television. When you’re ready, contact your service provider to activate your membership and request a channel guide or a specialized IPTV app.

Is it legal to use IPTV?

If no pirate apps loaded, IPTV is perfectly lawful. Any third-party software that facilitates the use of pirated materials is in violation of copyright regulations.

To get high-quality video and audio from the stuff you want to watch, IPTV is for you. It’s a great alternative to costly cable or satellite service that gives you access to the same cutting-edge TV content.

Consumer interest in high-tech items has skyrocketed. Statista.com reports that every year, more and more people in the United States purchase a Smart TV. Annual U.S. spending on this technology increased from $30 million in 2014-2019 to $37 million in 2019 and beyond. Experts predict that by 2025, the sum will rise to $67 million.

Why do people choose expensive smart TVs despite their high price? Will their cheaper rival set-top boxes eventually take their place? In this article, we’ll clarify the distinction between an Android TV box and a Smart TV. We will also discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Smart TVs and all their benefits

  • Even inexperienced users can quickly become comfortable with a smart TV’s interface.
  • They have all the most downloaded programs already installed. Someone who isn’t tech savvy won’t have any trouble using it right away, without needing to consult the instructions, install any third-party software, or adjust any of the device’s settings.
  • A smart TV’s apps may be managed with just the provided remote.
  • More than that, the interface of a Smart TV is really straightforward.

Benefits of Set-top boxes

The majority of Android TV boxes have certain programs pre-installed, such as a media player, YouTube, and the Google Play Store. The user will be responsible for installing any remaining components. Android TVs, on the other hand, have a far more comprehensive app library than Smart TVs.

So, here are some of the benefits of Android TV boxes:

  • Use of the Google Play Store. Google has an app store where users may download any of the more than 7,000 available apps; the vast majority of these apps are free to download and use.
  • The ability to command devices with one’s voice. Google Assistant is now compatible with Android TV streaming devices. The MAG500A is one such product, and it also incorporates a voice remote. Only smart TVs running Android TV actually have this functionality.
  • Help from the sidelines. Devices such as keyboards, mice, gamepads, memory cards, external media, MicroSD, and the like can all be used with set-top boxes.
  • Price. While a 42-inch smart TV from a reputable brand can cost more than $350, Android TV set-top boxes can be purchased for as little as $80.
  • Use any screen you have handy. Any television, from an older model to a Smart TV, can be hooked up to a set-top box.
  • Smart TV at a fraction of the price. The price of a set-top box is negligible compared to that of a smart TV.

Do Smart TVs allow app installation?

Smart TVs’ appeal lies in the fact that they come equipped with all the most downloaded apps already: They come preloaded with YouTube and other video-streaming apps. If you still feel that your smart TV is missing something, you can always download more apps from the store the TV was made for.

However, availability is restricted to only those apps that the manufacturer has opted to transfer to its platform. Once a Smart TV has been in use for two to three years, the software is no longer supported and cannot be updated.

Here is where Android TV really shines. After all, this OS ranks among the most widely used, and its source code is available to programmers. Therefore, Android TV has a built-in Google Play Store with access to over a half-million apps (and counting). Your Android TV set-top box also supports the installation of third-party applications. This makes it far more adaptable to new technologies than smart TVs.

Comparison between Smart TV and the MAG box

Because of this, the primary benefit of a smart TV is that it requires only one remote instead of many controls. You’ll need two cables—one from the TV to the set-top box, and another from the set-top box to the media player. Unfortunately, this shortcoming can be easily remedied.

Getting a universal remote control is your initial best bet. From the outside, it appears to be a standard TV remote. What sets it apart is that its buttons may be reprogrammed to operate other electronics, such as a cable box, HVAC system, or music system.

The alternative is to turn on HDMI-CEC. In order to use this feature, both your TV and set-top box must be compatible with it. It is usually found in the TV’s menu of options to turn on HDMI-CEC. Names vary by manufacturer:

  • LG—SimpLink
  • Samsung—AnyNet+
  • Sony—BraviaSync
  • Panasonic—VieraLink

After enabling HDMI-CEC on your TV, you must also do so on your set-top box. After that, you may use the media player’s remote to turn on the TV, simplifying your control setup.

Which is better, a set-top box or a Smart TV?

With an Android TV set-top box, you can enjoy all the features of a Smart TV at a lower price and with more flexibility (e.g., Google services, voice search, and thousands of apps on the Google Play Store). Which means that if you choose to go with it, you won’t be missing out on anything. Visit the set-top box catalog at Infomir.Store and choose your MAG.

The post Should you buy or rent a set-top box from a provider? first appeared on Infomir Europe Retail Shop.

]]>

A subscriber to an IPTV/OTT service can either purchase or rent a set-top box (STB). This article discusses the benefits of renting an STB and the profitability of purchasing a media player.

A media player is a device designed for viewing online or external media content. A set-top box, for example, can be used to watch digital TV and videos on the Internet, as well as Netflix shows, in addition to adding paid channels or downloading videos from an external hard drive.

Through the Internet, your device receives a digital signal from the content provider (an IPTV/OTT operator). The data is then converted by an STB into a format “understandable” by the TV and transmitted to the screen. At the same time, it maintains sound and image quality.

The benefits and drawbacks of renting a set-top box

An operator is a person who rents out equipment. Renting an STB is convenient if users do not want to be concerned about the technical condition of their devices. An IPTV operator owns a set-top box and thus bears repair costs if it fails for any reason. A new device will be delivered to the user, while the old one will be repaired or disposed of by an operator. A user does not need to worry about whether the device meets all of the latest standards. When a new type of casting or content is introduced, a new model will replace an out-of-date STB.

Renting to own may be less expensive than purchasing. A user pays a monthly subscription fee for content and devices when renting an STB.

Some providers provide a rent-to-own service at a discounted rate. It means that after a certain period of time, such as a year, your set-top box will be considered purchased. In this case, you must carefully consider whether it is more profitable to rent or purchase a device right away.

A set-top box can only operate in a single operator’s network. Some IPTV services customize their devices so that their set-top boxes can only work with video streams from a single service provider. Viewers cannot use a customized set-top box when switching operators in this case.

In terms of characteristics, an operator’s devices may not always satisfy a subscriber. For example, older people may only require a few essential functions, but they must “pay” for all device features, even if they will not require the majority of them.

At the same time, a set-top box may perform poorly for other users, such as gamers, who use it as both a media player and a game console.

Renting a set-top box is a good idea if a viewer plans to use it for no more than six months and does not intend to move or change operators during that time.

The benefits and drawbacks of purchasing a set-top box

Buying a set-top box is advantageous if you intend to use it for more than a year. For example, if an STB costs USD 80 and a monthly rental fee is USD 6, the rent for 14+ months is more expensive than the purchase. Different IPTV providers may offer different pricing options.

Most video services will work with your set-top box. IPTV operators can unilaterally change the terms of service, such as raising the subscription fee, at any time. It causes users to consider switching operators in order to find one with better terms and conditions.

If subscribers own set-top boxes, they can cancel their contract with their current operator and join a new one. Renting devices, on the other hand, would have to be purchased or returned.

You can pick a set-top box that satisfies your needs. You can purchase the most basic media player and avoid paying too much for extra features if you need a set-top box so that adults can watch the news while children can watch YouTube cartoons.

Difficult to set up. Most of the time, IPTV operators assist users in setting up their equipment. Service providers, who are knowledgeable about their own set-top boxes, enable the five-minute device connection process. Integration will take longer if operators or users are unfamiliar with the interface of the set-top box, though. In addition, this service might be charged.

It will cost you money to maintain and update a set-top box. If a set-top box has a manufacturing flaw, a short circuit, or a firmware bug, it will not function. In this situation, users will need to find a solution on their own. Customers who rent set-top boxes will get new operating systems promptly and for no cost.

The best option is to buy an STB if you intend to use it for more than a year, are aware of the features you require, and want the flexibility to switch IPTV providers.

Any user can choose whether to rely on a service operator or to completely disregard STB maintenance depending on what is most important to them. We advise you to look through Infomir’s selection of Linux- and Android TV-based set-top boxes if you are considering making a purchase.

Every year, IPTV services overtake their competitors, cable and satellite television. It is no surprise. Television is becoming more user-friendly and accessible as broadband technology advances and Internet access expands. The increasing demand attracts new market participants. There are so many operators that users are baffled as to which service is best for them. This article will not recommend one operator over another because there are dozens in every city. Instead, we will ask you seven questions, and by answering them, you will be able to find the ideal IPTV service provider.

1. Which IPTV channels are available?

Start your search by asking this question. Everybody has different tastes in content. Checking the list of channels should therefore be your first step before signing up.

Choose the genres that will best serve the interests of your entire family. Please be aware that providers frequently offer popular categories like sports, animated cartoons, new movies, and others in a separate package that costs extra. A custom package that only includes the channels you want can sometimes be created by companies. For you, this may be the best option.

2. What region does the provider serve?

One of the most crucial considerations when choosing an IPTV provider is geography. Before purchasing your subscription, you should think about the following three aspects.

  • Region for broadcasting. It affects the kind of content. If a provider only operates in a single city, it might provide more local channels. If it is a sizable video service, you will be able to watch content from various nations and areas but will need to find local news elsewhere.
  • Your location. The first aspect leads to the second. You should think about your potential movements, including relocation, before purchasing a subscription because many services are only offered in specific areas.Find out if the service is offered while you are on the road or at a new address.Selecting a provider who covers a large area is preferable if you travel frequently.
  • Location of the provider. No less significant than the receiving point is the location of your provider. The programs might be shifted in time if it operates from another continent. To put it another way, if the service provider is in a different time zone than you are, you might find that the primetime programming airs late at night in your area. We advise you to pick service providers that offer time shifts in order to avoid these inconveniences.

Another, equally significant factor is that the distance between your location and the server of the service provider affects the data transfer rate. You may have observed that downloading a file of a given size from a server that is closer to you will speed up the process. The information travels through multiple intermediary servers before arriving at a different location on the planet. With each such transition, the data rate decreases. While less important for smaller files, streaming relies heavily on data.

3. What types of devices can I access the content on?

What would you like to watch on TV, and where?

Some video services make their apps available. A Smart TV, a TV with a set-top box, a tablet, a smartphone, or a PC can all be used by users to view content.

A multi-screen option is offered by other service providers, allowing you to play content on the vast majority of widely used devices. The best option for you if you have a large family or do not want to miss your favorite shows while working or traveling is this.

Additionally, a lot of providers provide connections via IPTV set-top boxes. Your device or a well-known product on the market could be the culprit. Users who do not have smart TVs and subscribers whose TVs do not support specific functions may be interested in this solution. Operators can provide a list of extra features for set-top boxes, such as access to additional services, games, and other practical apps. For information on popular contemporary set-top box models and their features, consult our catalog.

4. Can a provider ensure broadcasting of a high standard?

A blurry image and poor sound quality can ruin an otherwise interesting program. Discover the highest resolution that your provider offers: HD, FullHD, or 4K, to make sure that technical issues do not interfere with your viewing experience.

You should also think about your equipment’s capabilities.

It is pointless to search for 4K content if your screen is small because you will not be able to tell the difference between it and UHD videos.

An adequate Internet connection speed is needed to view high-definition content. For uninterrupted content streaming, providers frequently list the recommended bandwidth. The indicator below the specified figure will cause buffering.

The rate at which content downloads from the provider’s server merits consideration. Even the most cutting-edge user equipment will not be able to prevent interference if it is not set high enough.

Verify the sound quality. There cannot be any gaps in the audio track or distortions. The volume can be changed to a level that is comfortable for you. If your service provider provides subtitles or audio tracks in different languages, that will be advantageous.

5. To what extent is the operator’s pricing policy flexible?

We suggest breaking down this broad question into a number of sub-aspects.

  • Cost of a subscription. Operators typically offer a variety of tariff plans based on functionality and content. Users are then able to select the most suitable and affordable plan.We advise evaluating the chosen operator’s costs in comparison to those of its rivals. Find out why your service costs more than its equivalent. Maybe there are some unique benefits that the provider offers. There is probably a good reason why the service is significantly less expensive than the competition. It is possible that the operator is doing unlicensed work or is just giving subscribers boring content
  • Payment methods. Determine whether your service provider accepts payment in a way that is convenient for you to avoid any hassles with your monthly payments. Cash, credit card payments, PayPal payments, and in some nations, even cryptocurrencies, are all acceptable forms of payment.
  • Trial period and refund. Numerous vendors lack a return policy. This is due to the nature of their work, which prohibits the return of watched hours like wrong-size clothing.

Many, however, might provide refunds if a malfunction on the operator’s end has prevented you from watching TV for a while. When users sign up for certain services, they may choose to cancel at any time and receive a refund.

A trial period, such as one to two weeks, during which users can test the service without paying can serve as an alternative to this. If your provider provides this option, confirm that the trial period is offered specifically for the package you intend to purchase. Some providers might give you a free trial of the premium package before switching you to the standard one once you have paid. Dealing with such operators is best avoided.

The post Everything you need to know about OTT platforms first appeared on Infomir Europe Retail Shop.

]]>

Experts have predicted that OTT service market revenues will go from 22.9 billion in 2017 to 48 billion USD in 2023, an effective doubling. IPTV operators’ revenues are expected to drop from 9 billion USD in 2015 to 4.7 billion in 2023. This suggests that IPTV services will be replaced by OTT platforms in the near future.

Here, we tell you what OTT services are, why the demand for them is steadily increasing, and how these services differ from IPTV, cable, and satellite TV.

What is an OTT platform?

An OTT streaming platform is an online service that makes video-on-demand, linear TV, and other media types available. It is usually cheaper than cable and satellite TV but often requires a subscription fee for access.

OTT service users do not have to download files because all content has already been uploaded to web servers. Media is displayed in real-time using TV set-top boxes (Apple TV and Android TV), PCs, tablets, smartphones (Android- or iOS-based), and game consoles (PlayStation and Xbox).

How do these platforms work?

Service access is provided via apps and websites. OTT services offer a wide range of content such as movies, TV series, television, music, and radio.

There are several OTT business models. The AVoD (advertising VoD) model offers free video content but has drop-in commercials. The SVoD (subscription VoD) model provides content access for a predetermined time, without the interruption of ads. The user pays a subscription fee and then chooses content from the operator’s catalog.

Some OTT services provide retail access to content meaning that the users are only charged for the videos that interest them. For instance, in the EST (electronic sell-through) model, users get a digital copy of the content, while in the TVoD model, they hire movies and TV shows (access is allowed for a few days).

Why is it called OTT?

OTT stands for “over-the-top”. It is so-called because the service is delivered over the top of another platform.

What is the difference between OTT and IPTV?

IPTV services use IP protocol technology. The service operator controls the content distribution, decides on the subscription package contents (e.g. the number of TV channels), and sets the fees. IPTV customers cannot access content from anywhere other than their homes because transmission is linked to the device’s hardware address.

OTT services operate similarly except that the communication channel between the operator and customer is independent of the internet provider. Therefore, the customer can access content from anywhere in the world where there is internet access.

How many OTT services are available?

OTT platforms are extremely popular. There are around 1000 service providers globally and about 600 in Europe and the US together. 75 per cent of Americans have two or more subscriptions and nearly 2 billion people worldwide use them. User numbers exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic but seem to be levelling off now.

There are several reasons for their popularity. OTT services spend less on infrastructure maintenance than satellite or cable TV providers, so their service subscription fees are lower. Also, it is much more convenient to use OTT platforms. Subscribers can access their favorite TV shows and movies anywhere where there is internet access and a playback unit.

A universal remote control is a gadget that can be used to operate several electronic devices at once. Because of this, using your home appliances is a breeze. You won’t have to memorize a bunch of various remotes’ hiding spots or get acclimated to their designs.

Let’s take a look at the features that come with universal remotes so we can decide if they’re worth purchasing. It looks like a TV remote, has a similar form, and the buttons are in the same places. The universal remote control differs in that it may learn the commands of a specific device by observing its IR transmissions.

It’s common for customers to wonder things like, what is the main difference between a universal remote and a traditional one, the best universal remote, and many more. We’ve compiled a list of the gadget’s benefits for your perusal. Your capabilities will expand greatly once you get your hands on a universal remote, that can:

  • USE A SINGLE REMOTE TO CONTROL MULTIPLE DEVICES
  • MODIFY OR DISABLE THE CURRENT SETTINGS

A further concern for consumers is whether or not a universal remote will be compatible with their specific TV model. We sell a programmable RCU for MAG and Remote Control T4H that can be used with any IR-controlled TV or set-top box. In addition, these replicas can learn to mimic the original remote controls’ infrared (IR) commands.

I have a universal remote but I don’t know how to program it

Infomir universal remotes have many buttons that may be used to operate a wide variety of electronic gadgets. Any desired universal remote functions can be given to them. The setup process for the universal remote control takes only a little time.

A link may be made between two remote controls by positioning them within 5 centimeters of each other, which will allow you to use one to operate the other’s functionality. For instance, the T4H remote has a combination of blue and red buttons that must be pressed and held for three seconds. When the T4H’s backlight turns on, you may use it to replicate the actions of a different remote control. To do so, push the button on the second remote whose function you wish to duplicate. Once the data have been duplicated, the light sensor signals will show it. Press the OK button to finish programming the remote. Should you decide to do so later, you can adjust the preferences.

Our store’s shown remotes have a range of up to 10 meters. They are well-made and comfy, with an ergonomic design. We sell MAG set-top boxes and universal remote controls separately or together in our store.

Not long ago, those simple push-button cell phones seemed to be a technological marvel. Now, we can hardly remember the days before phones with no smart functions. We’ve become used to the mini-computers in our handbags and pockets that can access the internet from wherever we are in the world. That old push-button phone seems like a museum piece in comparison.

In the same way, regular television sets have become outdated and can no longer meet our growing needs. We desire to pick what we watch and when. Smart televisions with internet capability are in great demand. Along with the evolution of smartphone software are the changes in their hardware. Improved Android™ and iOS functions, more advanced screens, cameras, battery life, etc.. TV set manufacturers, meanwhile, have focused mainly on displays and image quality, and have neglected software and features. As a result, many of us have stunning Full HD or 4K TV sets in our living rooms, but, without internet access.

The Android TV Box is a big upgrade for your TV

We’re here to tell you that you don’t need to purchase a new TV to enjoy smart TV functions. If you are happy with the image quality of the TV you already have, there is an inexpensive way to get internet access to it and watch your favorite shows, no matter how old your TV is.

The Android TV set-top box is the solution. They cost around 3–5 times less than your average smart TV.

Why use an Android TV Box?

Android TV transforms TV sets into multifunctional devices with a host of useful features.

Here are a few:

Large selection of content

The Android TV Box allows you to access YouTube, streaming services, and many types of entertainment. By accessing the Google Play Store, you can use more than 7,000 games and apps. Connect to your pay-TV provider to watch your favorite channels, movies, and TV shows.

Here’s what Android TV can provide for any television:

If you can’t think of something to watch, simply ask. You can find a movie to suit any taste, learn more about your favorite celebrity, watch the global news and weather, immerse yourself in the world of sport, and much more. Simply control the set-top box with your voice.

Customizable start screen

You can customize your start screen to your specifications. Put icons for your favorite apps, movies, and series on the start screen. Choose the most recent episode to continue from the moment you last watched or quickly switch to another application or show.

Smart Home control hub

Create a perfect atmosphere for watching TV while staying comfy on your sofa. Use Google Assistant to dim the lights, turn up the temperature, and work in sync with all your other smart home gadgets.

Which set-top box is best for me?

All Android TV set-top boxes undergo strict Google certification and are exceptionally reliable. This impacts the device’s cost — Android TV set-top boxes have more powerful hardware and their software is regularly updated, so they cost 60+ euros.

One especially high-quality Android TV set-top box is the Nvidia Shield TV which has been specifically designed with gamers in mind. It has an attractive design, intuitive controls, and content displayed without delays and lag. This device costs around 210–220 euros.

We have a more reasonable option to suggest — MAG500A. This is the flagship device by Infomir — a European manufacturer of TV set-top boxes. It has everything you need for outstanding TV viewing:

  • FULL HD AND 4K SUPPORT
  • HDR SUPPORT, WHICH PROVIDES GOOD CONTRAST AND A CRISP IMAGE
  • HIGH-SPEED ETHERNET AND WI-FI (2.4 AND 5 GHZ)

These days, we get most of our information from the radio, TV, and the Internet. However, technology is always evolving, so companies constantly develop new and improved devices. That means people worldwide buy hundreds of thousands of TVs, tablets, smartphones, and audio systems daily, each with more features and capabilities than the last.

But it wasn’t all that long ago that a basic TV, which you might keep in your bedroom or living room for years, was considered pretty up-to-date. Unfortunately, those old devices don’t cut it by today’s standards.

So what should we do? Get rid of the old “dinosaur” TV and spend money on a new one that will be obsolete in a few years? Not necessarily!

If you’ve got an old TV lying around, don’t worry — it’s not obsolete! Instead, a set-top box like the MAG520 by Infomir can breathe new life into it. You can connect the box to your TV in one of two ways: either with an HDMI connector or through a 3.5 mm composite output, depending on what your TV supports. Once everything’s hooked up, you can watch content on your old TV just as well as you would on a newer, mid-range smart TV. And if you have a newer TV without smart features, we suggest picking up an Android TV™ device to unlock even more potential.

Which is the best Android TV box to buy?

If you’re looking to buy an Android TV box, we’re here to help. First, it’s important to understand what makes a good one to make the best choice for your needs. With an Android TV box, you’ll be able to turn your TV into a smart TV, complete with Internet access and voice search capabilities. Plus, you’ll be able to watch all your favorite shows and movies from various sources, such as IPTV/OTT services, network-attached storage, or even your hard drive. The MAG500A is one Android TV box that fits the bill — it’s definitely worth checking out.

What makes a good Android TV box?

With the MAG500A, you’re getting a device packed with features. It plays 4K content, supports HDR, and has an Auto Frame Rate feature for smooth playback. Plus, you’ll have access to the Google Play store, with around 7,000 games and apps to choose from. There’s also Chromecast built-in, so you can easily cast content from your smartphone to your TV.

This set-top box also gives you multiple internet connection options, with a Wi-Fi adapter and a regular Ethernet port. This makes it even more reliable than many of its competitors. Plus, the developers are constantly updating the software, so you know you’ll always be up to date with the latest technology.

In essence, the MAG500A is a great choice if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on a TV that might not be able to keep up with new technology in a few years.

Numerous consumers have been pleasantly pleased by the versatility and wealth of extra functions available on IPTV set‑top boxes. Any conventional TV set may be converted into a Smart TV by using one of these accessories. Come, let us discuss this in depth.

What is a smart set-top box?

A set-top box for IPTV is a small device that adds to the capabilities of TVs. Even very old TVs can connect to the Internet with this device.

How does a STB work?

The algorithm for how an IPTV set-top box works is easy to understand. The device gets a signal from the Internet, decodes it, and then shows the information on the TV screen.

What are the advantages for the user?

Set-top box owners can choose and watch their favorite media content from free sources or by paying for a subscription. They can also look at websites with just a TV and a remote.

Set-top boxes come in different kinds. Some set-top boxes, like the Linux STB and the Android STB, can connect to app stores. These stores have a wide range of apps, like games, instant messengers, news programs, and more.

How do you hook up a set-top box?

Most of the time, when a customer first picks a tiny box with so many features, he asks himself, “Does TV box really work?” To use an IPTV set-top box, you must do the following:

  • Choose and get your set-top box
  • Connect the STB to your TV set
  • Hook it up to the Internet router at work or at home
  • Change the settings on the set-top box so it meets your needs: open the website of your pay-TV provider or download free OTT apps
  • Enjoy your TV new features

Where does the content for an IPTV set-top box come from?

IPTV and OTT providers are the main sources of content for set-top boxes. Set-top box users can also get content from PCs, removable drives (USB sticks and hard drives), and network-attached storage.

What are IPTV and OTT, though?

IPTV is the private or mostly private network of your Internet service provider. Most of the content you get through this network costs money, and your ISP also charges you for it.

With OTT, you can get streaming services even if you don’t have an Internet provider. There are many ways for an OTT service provider to make money, from showing ads to selling paid subscriptions to its services.

Buying an IPTV set-top box is the best way to choose your own content, use convenient Internet services, and “pimp out” your TV as much as possible.

Smart TVs are the way of the future regarding video content. If you haven’t gotten on board with an Android TV™ set-top box, don’t worry — we’re about to fill you in on all the perks.

What is happening in the global market?

When it comes to the IPTV/OTT market, Android devices are surely at the forefront. Now, you might be wondering about the different types of Android software out there. First, there’s the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Android TV. Understanding the differences between these two options will help you determine the best fit for you.

AOSP

While AOSP TVs and set-top boxes are versatile devices, they don’t have access to Google services. That said, manufacturers are free to modify the software however they like, so there’s a lot of room for customization. In addition, AOSP is an open-source operating system, which is why it’s often the go-to choice for large companies who want to update their TV equipment.

Android TV

If you’re in the market for a premium TV device, you’ll want to consider TVs and set-top boxes that run on Android TV. These devices are certified by Google, which means you’ll have access to the official Google Play store and its impressive selection of over 7000 games and apps. Plus, Android TV devices undergo regular security updates.

What makes a good Android TV box?

While many newer TVs come with smart features and Wi-Fi built-in, not everyone has one of these models. Fortunately, the Android TV set-top box can turn any TV into a smart TV. But you might be wondering, what exactly makes a good Android TV box? Essentially, this device will let your TV connect to the internet, allowing you to access streaming services, use voice control features and other ‘bonuses,’ and even play 3D games. As a result, it’s a great way to supercharge your viewing experience and get the most out of your TV.

How to choose an Android TV box?

Below are three devices that can make any TV smart:

  • XIAOMI MI BOX S
  • MAG500A
  • NVIDIA SHIELD TV

There’s no denying that these set-top boxes have made quite a name for themselves globally. However, the devices differ in design, price, and specifications (video quality, gaming potential).

Which is the best Android TV box to buy?

If you’re in the market for a set-top box, you’ll want to consider the MAG500A. This device stands out from the crowd for many reasons. For starters, it can play 4K HDR video content, which is great if you’re a fan of high-quality visuals. It also has some built-in Google services and lets you play Android games on your TV screen.

The MAG500A is designed to be super user-friendly, too. You can control it using the remote control or the Google Assistant app. And with Chromecast built-in, you can use your smartphone to control the set-top box and even display photos and videos from your phone on your TV.

Another great feature is that the MAG500A’s Wi-Fi adapter works with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. That allows you to connect it to all devices, including your PC, network-attached storage, or USB drive. You can even use a wireless keyboard and mouse with it.

All things considered, the MAG500A is a pretty impressive set-top box that gives some of the top models on the market a run for their money. It’s worth checking out, especially given its affordable price tag and wealth of features.

When it comes to IPTV/OTT set-top boxes, Linux and Android TV are the most popular operating systems. Compare these two OS to see which one best suit your needs.

Functionality of Linux and Android TV

The two most popular operating systems (OS) for IPTV/OTT set-top boxes are Linux and Android TV. In both cases, the kernel providing the power is Linux.

Between hardware and software, the kernel acts as a go-between. A graphical shell and other applications are required for operation.

Linux is an OS family that can run on a wide range of hardware, from TV boxes to servers to desktop computers to mobile devices. Since the early 2000s, Linux media players have been widely used by IPTV/OTT service providers.

One of the most widely used operating systems for desktop computers in 2023 is Linux. In fact, Digital TV Europe claims that 800 million STBs throughout the globe run on this software. Due to Linux’s open source nature, there are no restrictions on how you may put it to use.

Google’s Android TV is an implementation of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) operating system. The platform is made for home theater electronics including smart televisions, media players, projectors, and soundbars.

Set-top boxes that use the Android TV operating system include a simple UI and Google Assistant. Additionally, the gadgets come equipped with YouTube and the Google Play Store.

Which operating system customers choose depends on their priorities: Linux’s accessibility, availability, and dependability, or Android TV’s superior performance, user-friendliness, and abundance of features.

Viewers can choose their own set-top box or one provided by an IPTV or OTT provider. Still, it’s possible that operators may only provide a single model of set-top box. So, it is preferable to select a different service provider if the device characteristics are inappropriate.

Android TV

Android TV-powered set-top boxes have a same user interface. Google has been working on it for a long time to improve the functionality of set-top boxes for TV users. Therefore, the UI is tailor-made for media consumption.

YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Assistant, a Chromecast built-in, and the Google Play Store are just some of the apps and services that come standard on all Android TV devices.

YouTube. The most widely used software for playing back online video. There is a wide variety of unique material available, including music videos, movies, news, educational programs, and shows for kids and adults.

YouTube Music A dedicated music player, podcast subscriber, and concert video viewer.

Google Assistant The combination of a voice assistant with a remote control for a set-top box. It can provide information on the local climate and entertainment options, as well as answer inquiries.

The ability to cast material from a smartphone to a TV is made possible via Chromecast built-in. With an Android TV set-top box, for instance, you may exhibit media files to a wide audience.

Google Play Store. More than 7,000 different applications (games, media players, file managers, and more) are available for purchase and download from this digital marketplace.

Important! Verify that the media player is one of the Android TV-certified devices and that the set-top box model is on the list of Google partners before making a purchase.

Linux OS

Infomir.store’s Linux-based set-top boxes do not come with any extra software beyond the fundamentals. For instance, there is a built-in gateway where users may access various features such as viewing files, turning on the TV, and opening a browser. Additionally, customers may arrange to have IPTV and over-the-top material from their service providers made available to them there.

Linux-based media players are simple to operate. They do not come preloaded with a bunch of bloatware that you’ll never use. Additionally, the primary pre-installed apps are always model-specifically compatible.

In conclusion, which digital media player should you get?

Pay close attention to the specifications demanded by an IPTV/OTT provider while making your own set-top box selection. If the requirements are met by both Linux and Android TV STBs, then you may concentrate on the user interface.

Choose an Android TV if you want a user experience that’s practically identical to that of a smartphone and the ability to install your favorite applications.

Linux is a good option if you want to avoid using Google’s services and want a streamlined user experience with minimal distractions.
